permanently confined to, and holed up in servitude positions to
beholden godfathers who have worryingly created a servile dependency
syndrome around themselves, in which loyalty is measured by the
hatchet jobs we are willing to do for the pay master against a
brother, all in the name of politics. Little wonder our politics
focuses less on developmental issues, but on patronage and
distribution of largesse to cronies.

If Tinubu appointed Osinbajo AG in Lagos having not met him before,
but on the recommendation of his famed legal prowess and the latter is
today VP, is because he went for talent. The appointment only provided
a stepping stone for nurturing the budding talent and today he has
ensured he is VP.

Unfortunately, the demi gods in Benue don't reason that way, which is
why even when a replacement for the embattled SGF is discussed with a
spotlight on Benue, all you hear are names of substantively elected
senators who are in no way better qualified than numerous Benue sons
and daughters, except that we have elected them to become first
amongst us so they must take precedence over us in all matters!

Otherwise, what is the utilitarian value of a sitting senator
abandoning an elected position to go and serve as an appointee who
enjoys a tenure of office at the pleasure of the appointing authority?
Isn't that a crass manifestation of our servile and servitude
mentality.

Elsewhere, these same senators would shop for a younger and brighter
prospect amongst their teeming followers or constituents and promote
to broaden the leadership base, expand opportunities and develop a new
talent. That is how the revered Sardauna Ahmadu Bello led the North
and gave it a political headstart against the South.

Our leaders should also learn to serve us the led and be loyal to us,
afterall loyalty is a two-way intercourse.
