Belgium 3-2 Japan: Vertonghen, Fellaini & Chadli stage stunning comeback to see off Japan

Lukaku's shot blocked   Lukaku has not had much service so far but he looks to be in the mood this evening, demanding the ball at every opportunity and putting Japan's defence under pressure.  25' Yoshida appears to push Lukaku but the latter does not fall down   Japan survive a major scare as Mertens' dangerous cross leads to a scramble in the area but Lukaku can not tuck it home before Japan jump on the loose ball.  

27' Kompany's effort skips past the goal   Big opportunity for Kompany to open the scoring as De Bruyne's delivery finds him in room at the far post but, from a tight angle, he fails to hit the target.  

44' Courtois almost lets the ball skip into the net!   Heart in mouth moment for Belgium defensively as Nagatomo drills a pass into the box which is poked back towards Courtois who, under no pressure at all, fumbles the ball and has to quickly collect the loose ball.  

48' GOAL! Belgium 0-1 Japan (Haraguchi)   Vertonghen fails to cut out Shibasaki's through ball and Haraguchi latches onto the end of the pass, firing a driven shot into the far corner of the net beyond Courtois' reach.   Japan have looked dangerous on the counter throughout and Shibasaki's ball through was sublime, although Vertonghen should have done.  

49' OFF THE POST! Hazard almost scores   Belgium almost hit back immediately as Mertens tees the ball across to Hazard as he arrives inside the box but his effort clatters against the frame of the goal.  

52' GOAL! Belgium 0-2 Japan (Inui)   Kagawa collects the ball on the edge of the box and pokes a pass back to Inui, who shapes up to shoot and fires an unstoppable effort into the bottom right-hand corner.    Kagawa's pass for Inui invited the shot and he obliged. Japan are in dreamland!  62' WIDE! A huge chance for Lukaku!   A huge chance for Lukaku! Meunier curls a cross into the six-yard box where the Manchester United man has acres of room but he heads past the post.  

69' GOAL! Belgium 1-2 Japan (Vertonghen)   Japan fail to deal with a corner and Vertonghen loops a superb header over the head of Kawashima and into the far corner. Game on!  

74' GOAL! Belgium 2-2 Japan (Fellaini)   Hazard curls a superb cross into the middle where Fellaini, off the bench, rises above the Japan defence to head home.   Hazard has had a frustrating evening but he has delivered when it mattered. What a game we are witnessing!  

94' GOAL! Belgium 3-2 Japan (Chadli)   What an incredible end to an incredible match! The Red Devils hit on the counter with the last kick of the game.   De Bruyne charges through the middle, rolls a ball out wide to Meunier and the low cross is brilliantly left by Lukaku and Chadli has the goal at his mercy.  

Match Report  Nacer Chadli's 94th-minute winner completed a sensational comeback as Belgium beat Japan 3-2 to book a World Cup quarter-final against Brazil.  

After a goalless first half, Japan struck twice in seven minutes following the interval to take full control of a gripping last-16 tie in Rostov-on-Don on Monday.  Genki Haraguchi and Takashi Inui scored stunners as Japan looked set to reach the first World Cup quarter-final in their history.   

But, instead, Belgium became the first team to come from two goals down to win in a World Cup knockout game since 1970 and will now face five-time winners Brazil on Friday.  Jan Vertonghen's looping header somehow beat goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima and Belgium's aerial power started to tell when Marouane Fellaini thumped home Eden Hazard's brilliant left-wing cross.   

Keisuke Honda almost beat Thibaut Courtois with a free-kick in injury time but a clinical Belgium counter-attack, which ended in Thomas Meunier setting up Chadli for a simple finish, broke Japanese hearts.
