Why President Buhari will Not Proscribe Fulani Herdsmen as Terrorists

By Mathias Sende.

A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inactions, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury, (John Stuart Mill). This assertion clearly defines the scenerio surrounding president Buhari's action and inaction regarding Fulani herdsmen genocide across the country. The inactions of Mr. President to the wanton killings is astonishing and worrisome and must be condemned by all and sundry irrespective of tribal and religious inclination.

The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not warrant anyone or group to take life for what ever  reason. The question is, what could be the rationale  behind the actions and inactions of Mr. President? Why the Fulanis  gruesomely kill unabated without  compunction and go unpunished? Voltaire once said, "It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets". Does this statement implies that the government is the trumpet and the herders are only dancing according to the sound of the trumpet?  Abacha once opined that " if insurgency last in a country for more than 24 hours, the government has a hand in it". Is that why the herders go unabated and unpunished because the  government has a hand in the killings?

No wonder! The army have been reportedly accused for protecting the armed herdsmen to commit their genocide against the disarmed victims in Benue State and other  parts of the country? Ayn Rand has said it all, "Potentially, a government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims".

It is pitiable and regrettable that the number one citizen of this country is perceived to be the sponsor of the dangerous terrorist group. The citizens are loosing confindence in his leadership. Does it means that the president  supports terrorism in  the country? For any responsible government who does not have a hand in the killings of her citizens, we declare herders a terrorist group.

Action expresses priorities. The agenda of Fulani herdsmen and their cohorts  have been well communicated  but I asure you they will never succeed. The priority  is to protect cows and terrorists and  confiscate people's lands and Islamize Nigeria.

The central defect of evil is not sin but the refusal to acknowledge sin (Scott Peck). The goverment has refused to see the evils, the brutality, genocidal act masterminded by  Fulani herdsmen, that's why she has not and will not proscribe them as terrorists. Any responsible government that does not encourage crime will declare Fulani herdsmen as terrorists.

Mr. President is the grand patron of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. And this same group has carried dastardly, wanton killings, destroyed property worth trillions of naira  in the country and the President cannot say anything. Would that implies That Mr. President is the grand patron of a terrorist group if he proscribes Fulani herdsmen as terrorists in the country? NO! I don't think  Mr. Integrity would want to associate himself with that as it stains his integrity. I think Mr. President is in a serious dilemma.

However, it is good to do the right thing, Mr. President. The activities of Fulani herdsmen is same with that of Boko Haram. In fact, they are identical twins. Proscribe Fulani herdsmen as terrorists.

No one or group  is bigger than this Nation, and Fulani herdsmen are not bigger than this Nation. NO one is above the law of this country, and NO one has the  right to destroy lives and property. It is against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Moreso, cattle rearing is a personal business, and it should not in any way be a threat to other lives, business or livelihood. Cows are not more important than humans.

Only equity and  justice can heal the world (Bongos Ikuwe) . We want Justice.  Treat everyone with equity, we are all Nigerians. We want peace, we want to return to our homes. We want freedom. National Assembly, we want equity and justice.  The security of the citizenry should not be compromised.

Our submission is that 1. implement "Anty Open Grazing and Ranching Establishment Law" at the Federal level to avert this perpetual killings in the country. It is the best practice for modern animal husbandry. 2. Stop the genocide, proscribe Fulani herdsmen as terrorists. 3. Treat everyone with equity, we are all Nigerians. NIGERIA MUST BE BETTER
